Galaxy Z Flip 5 Supports Video Output Via USB, Allowing You To Connect an External Monitor with Your Phone

Jun 05, 2023

The Galaxy Z Flip 5 is getting a lot of attention and for the right reasons. I think this clamshell foldable is a lot more attractive than the much more expensive Z Fold 5 because, let's be honest, this foldable is the one that has seen the most amount of changes because that Flex Window is an upgrade for a lot of people as it allows you to take the user experience to a new level.

However, there is one thing both Galaxy Z Fold 5 and Galaxy Z Flip 5 support that not a lot of people have talked about. You see, both of these phones have USB Type C 3.2 support, which might seem like no one would be interested in, but with the USB Type C 3.2, you can connect an external display.

Now, why is it a big deal? Well, you must know that the Galaxy Z Flip 5 does not have DeX support in any shape or form because Samsung believes it would cause overheating since DeX is resource happy and relies heavily on the GPU and CPU at the same time, and the Flip 5 does not have the thermal headroom for this performance. The good news is that you can still connect an external display and mirror your phone's screen without any issues coming in the way.

If you are looking to mirror your Galaxy Z Flip 5 screen onto an external display, all you need to do is connect the two devices with the supported USB cable, and you are all sorted without any additional hardware needed.

I want to point out here that just because the Galaxy Z Flip 5 is thermally incapable of running Samsung DeX doesn't mean it is not a capable smartphone. As a matter of fact, you have everything you need in a smartphone, including a great chipset, solid cameras, and a pretty decent battery. Considering how the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 is efficient, I doubt you are going to run into any issues when using the phone.

So, the next time you feel like connecting an external monitor to your Galaxy Z Flip 5, you should not have any issues coming your way as it is, in most cases, a plug-and-play process. This means that all you need to get started is a USB Type-C cable.
