2,000 cable harnesses turned around in a week

Kent-based cable loom maker Convert has just turned around and delivered 2,000 harnesses within a week of taking the enquiry.

“Texecom’s original supplier had let them down and they were on a very tight deadline for their customer,” according to Convert. “They put a call into Convert on the Wednesday, and Convert began sourcing materials and quoting the following day, and received a purchase order for 2,000 pieces.”

Convert engineers produced a test harness and electrically verified it on the Friday, and production started on the Monday, with assembly and batch delivery on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday.

The assembly has five cables, three connectors and an EMC ferrite core.

The tricky bit, said Convert, was building two custom tools which would normally have a 6-8 week lead-time.

Texecom, based in Lancashire, has ordered a further 10,000 pieces.

“Convert stepped in in a no-nonsense no-drama fashion and delivered exactly what we needed within our required timescale,” said Texecom head of logistics Chris Wright.

“The key is to maintain a high quality while developing, testing and producing. We can do this because we have a team of highly skilled engineers and efficient equipment,” said Convert MD Dave Lord.

Convert manufactures cable harnesses for automotive, public transport, scientific and medical sectors.

Texecom is a manufacturer or security equipment and a security service provider.
